Doves Funerals...... Price

My mother passed away on Sunday 07/08/2022 at Vergelegen Mediclinic, who organised with Doves - Somerset West - to fetch the body. Monday 08/08 I went to Doves Somerset West, to organise a still cremation. Mr Jerome Benny assisted me, he was very help full and sympathetic. The price he gave me was R23 000-00. I was told the price had just gone up. I left Doves and on my way home I went to another private undertaker. I did not mention the name Doves to them at all, I just asked them for the price of a still cremation. Without any hesitation, the reception told me it was R13 000-00 + R3 000-00 to fetch the body from another undertaker. I called Mr Benny and told him that I will have the body collected by another undertaker who had quoted R16 000-00. Within 2 minutes Mr Benny called me back and said that Doves will match R16 000-00. Doves did the cremation. The service was as it was expected. On Friday 26/08 at 17:15 Doves Johannesburg office called to find out if I was satisfied with the service I received from them - when I mentioned the price problem, the lady said that funerals are very expensive and ended the conversation. For interest sake, I got quotes from a number of well known opposition undertakers - across the board the price ranged from R13 00-00 to not more than R14,600-00 (excluding an extra +- R3 000-00 for collection from another undertaker). How is it possible to have such a huge price difference - eish! even for funerals services, we have to shop around, or is it a matter of "grieving people won't mind the price, charge them" I am just asking......
