You pay for the installation of a tracking unit required by the insurance.

What draw me to dotsure was the fact that vehicle drivers are accountable for their actions. I am a firm believer of accountability!

To enforce this accountability a Netstar tracking module needs to be installed into the client’s car. Fair enough; no issues with this. Dotsure as a company pays for the installation while the client pays the monthly instalments which is included in your policy. Still no issues; happiness is!

The issue comes when you buy a new car, and you need to transfer your insurance from the old car to the new one. Now you must pay for the installation of the new Netstar tracking module out of your own pocket which is require by your insurer… and it is not cheap either at R700 a pop!

But wait, there is more! The company has full control over the unit, and you cannot even use the Netstar app to locate your vehicle! Everything must be done via the dotsure portal…

My question is that since the tracking module is controlled by the insurance company and it is them that requires it, why should the client pay for the installation? I have no problem paying the monthly fees because I also get benefit from it.

You cannot use your own tracking module at all, and you cannot go to Netstar and request that the service be transferred to your own name so that you can be billed directly. The contract with Netstar is a three year one so if you cancel before that, you are liable for the bill for the next three years….

My advice to all new customers is that before you took up insurance with dotsure, watch out for this one. It sounds like a really good idea until you buy a new car…

No need to as I will be cancelling my insurance anyway.
