Dotsure/Oakhurst vehicle insurance Claim *******

I took out car business insurance with Dotsure/Oakhurst in July 2019 for a vehicle I was using for Taxify/Bolt. I read through the policy and it seemed pretty standard thus I went on to have it in effect and sent them all relevant documentation.

Fast forward, 16th March 2020 my son, who was the registered regular driver of the vehicle was was in a MVA where the car was hit on the rear right hand side and the driver didn't stop thus 'hit and run'. I then put up a claim for the car accident and they towed it to HJ Bosch and Sons. Three odd days after that i was advised that the car was a write off for whatever reason they deemed fit.

Now they required more documents for the claim. I submitted all documents I had and i was then informed by the claims clerk that I needed to submit an Operating License, which I can't possibly have because it is not a requirement in my line of business, please see link below: https://www.gauteng.gov.za/ServicesNew/ServiceAsync?serviceId=CPM-001667&taxonomyItemId=CPM-001010&isFromDepartment=true

Now I was penalized R20 000.00 for failure to produce a document that the government cannot issue!?! The requirement in the policy wasn't even solid and for your courtesy i will quote it:

"You may also be responsible for the following ADDITIONAL EXCESSES in addition to your basic excess:

Incidents where an Operating License and/or Operator’s card as it pertains to the insured vehicle cannot be produced 10% min R20 000"

Where I provided the Operator's card only. I'm no lawyer but surely cannot be applicable in this case as it is an and/or meaning i would hold if there was an Operating License that could be produced.

Long story short the insurance pay out for my 2015 Hyundai Accent G/L Motion with full service history and in immaculate condition is R 142 360.00

Less Basic Excess @ 10% of Claim min R5 000. 00 = R14 236.00,

Less Excess for No Operating License @ 10% of Claim min R 20 000.00 = R 20 000.00

Which brings it to Total Excess R 34 236.00 and total payout R108 124.00 meaning their creativity in making sure yhey pay less on the claim had rhe total claim dwindled by a whopping 24%

I must express the utter dissatisfaction and sheer disappointment in the service,

P.S. Oakhurst had no trouble deducting yet another premium from my account month end March, nearly 3 weeks after the claim was initiated and tge the car was written iff by their assessor. Yet another blow.
