Dotsure want me to s**** my car because of a few dents?
Where to start? I suppose at the beginning, Sunday, October 22. A hail storm hit Ladysmith KZN and the town was pounded by golf-ball sized hailstones. My car got a few nice new dings and the front windscreen was cracked. Fast forward a few days and I call dotsure and I am informed that my zero excess insurance actually has a requirement of over R5000 in damages before they will pay out. So to get the insurance to pay for the windscreen, I would need to get a quote from a panelbeater that the damage was over R5000, Now my car is a 2010 Hyundai i20 which I bought plus minus 8 years ago. I have been insured with dotsure/oakhurst for nearly the whole period.
You can imagine my surprise when the quote comes back at R54 000 and some change to fix the minor dents and the windscreen. I am told to take it to another panelbeater who quotes R47 000 for the dents and windscreen.
The next thing I know my car is to be written-off and they offer to pay me out R75 000. Now to replace my car would cost way more than 75k so I ask them can I not get a cash payment and I will pay for the repairs obviously deducting what they would get for s****ping my vehicle and they have a figure already in mind, R45 000. This seems reasonable to me, but here is the kicker, my vehicle which is perfectly fine and on the road needs to still be s****ped and written-off. A perfectly good car needs to be s****ped because it literally is just too expensive to repair! So all I can say is do not sign on the dotted line with dotsure!!!!!
