Dotsure Policies SUCKS

I am incredibly unhappy about Dotsure Pet Insurance and the wording of their policy. I have both my dogs on the basic plan as they are relatively healthy and happy dogs. 2 Weeks ago my youngest dog had an emergency GDV operation. The morning of the op I had to pay R4,000 and once she was discharged the bill total was R9130 which I settled at the vet on a credit card as no normal person has this type of money just available. We sent in the forms and to my suprise Dotsure is only paying back R2900 and something. Reading the policy it didn't make sense i.e. as it falls under an illness and not an accident (not sure how they differentiate between them as we don't plan such serious illnesses, it happens by accident) it states they pay 50% with max R3200 if it is an illness. In the table in their policy I understood there are additional payments - they pay R 425.00 for prescribed medication, R 635.00 for radiology, R 1 600.00 for surgery and R 740.00 for hospitalisation. They don't state that they add these separate amounts up and then divide them by half. I understood that they will pay at least all of these amounts. The policy just doesn't make sense at all. I moved my pets from another medical aid to Dotsure since they are so great and and and.. but to my experience they are really ****py and I am considering moving my dogs back to the medical aid they were on before.

Dear Clinton

We have finalised the investigation of your complaint.

During our investigation we found that:

  • The insurer took reasonable steps to ensure that you are duly informed of the limits that apply to your cover;
  • During underwriting, you informed the consultant that you do not wish to discuss all the limits that apply to your cover and that you would read your policy documents at your owns time;
  • We could not find any record that you objected to any of the limits listed in your policy schedule, prior to the occurrence of the loss and prior to your complaint.
  • Your claim was settled in accordance with the terms and conditions of  you contract of insurance that you agreed to at the inception of your cover.
Illnesses and Accidents are clearly defined in your policy documents;
  • The insurer never gave you the impression that it would accept 100% liability for all losses that you would incur.

We have provided you with a more comprehensive, written response via email and we also included supporting media.

We have closed our file in this matter and we trust that you find this in order.

Sincerely,

Dotsure Resolutions Team
