Dotsure is a ****

If i could give them a negative number (-10) i would. As customers around the world, I think we've all come to accept how insurance companies are a ****. It's a fact and we accept it, but we also accept the unfortunate fact that we need them. Its all good and well when you pay the premium monthly but come payout time, they'll come up with all kinds of ways to evade payment to the client. I dreaded writing this review, but despite the many negative complaints & reviews about insurance companies I still had hope this will be different.

I opened an extended warranty in August with Dotsure. At that time i spoke to Christopher Viljoen who gave me 1st grade service i even rated him well. He told me about the 60 day waiting period which i kept at the back of my mind. I also wanted to add an extended service plan. But he explained that they didnt have that option yet, it will start in October. It wont be a full service payout though, it will work like a subsidy, a customer will get paid only upto R1600. I said cool, i will add it in October. October passed and on 29/11/2024 I called to add that option in. I was assisted by Nolitha van Staden. Who also reminded me about the 60 days waiting period. She sent me my updated policy & told me i will pay an updated amount end of December 2024. I read the policy again and i reminded myself of their 60 days which clearly states "No claim event will be covered within 60 days of the start date".

On 14/02/2025, i took my car for service and paid for the service myself. Then i remembered i have a benefit with dotsure that covers a portion of my service. I registered a claim with them on 17/02/2025, sent through the invoice & copies of my service book. Only for them to respond they wont pay it, because i am still within my waiting period.

Somehow i feel like dotsure misrepresented the facts to me. In their policy it state that any claim will not be covered within 60 days from the start date. To me the start date is the date the agreement was concluded. The day they sent me the updated policy (29/11/2024) was the date i entered into a contractual agreement with Dotsure, & i calculated 60 days from then. Only for them to say 60 days is calculated from the date of the 1st payment. This statement is however not explicitly stated in the policy & none of the agents i spoke to clearly stated "Please bear in mind this policy will only commence after the 1st payment". I was only reminded about the 60 day waiting period, nothing about when it comes into effect. Its unfair for them to assume the customer ought to have known. Had i canceled the policy on the 15th of December was not gonna be held in breach of contract? They would've told me im still liable to make the 1st payment.

To me the 60 days started 30/11/2024. I paid December & January and in February my waiting period had passed. I wouldn't have bothered to register a claim if i was clear and aware when the 60 days starts being implemented. But im told a different story. It doesn't matter anyways. Insurance companies always find ways not to pay the customer and its said that we still think and hope we can trust them.
