Disgusting company

I took out pet insurance for my puppy. She fell sick soon after I got her and needed to be rushed to the vet. She has been at the vet for 9 days now with serious gastro-intestinal issues. She had to be put on a number of drips and be given a number of injections daily to save her life. When I contacted Dotsure.co.za to claim for her vet bills, without hesitation the person tells me they won't pay it is outside of a claim period. She also doesn't consider this an emergency, it falls under illness so I must wait. How much of an emergency do they want. She wasn't born ill. This isn't an illness she has had over time. The person tells me I can claim the next time she says...WHAT? I was so angry. I have a letter that says my pet was covered as of 5 March 2018 but when I need them they have excuses. I told the woman to cancel my insurance if they can't do the only thing they are there to do and that is provide medical insurance to a pet owner who's animal needs it. She asked when to call, since cancellation can only happen over the phone. I gave her a date and time, surprise surprise...no call. So, Dotsure.co.za can take your monthly premium BUT they don't have to pay out or follow through with a call to cancel. How convenient for their back pockets. I am shocked. With all their lovely TV ads, you would think they cared. I didn't know my puppy would get sick. I couldn't time it to be convenient for their schedule. I desperately needed their help. My finances are tight. When she fell ill I thought it will be ok, she is covered. I won't let my puppy die because of an inconsiderate company such as Dotsure.co.za

Dear Desyree

We confirm that your Dotsure Pet Insurance policy was set to start on 5 March 2018. During the voice proposal you were advised to read the policy terms and conditions and to call your personal portfolio consultant for any queries. On page 5 of your policy schedule it is stated that there is a waiting period of 30 days on all claims. Illness is covered under the plan you chose but only after the waiting period has lapsed.

We confirm that the policy was cancelled with immediate effect on 15 March 2018 as per your instruction and a cancellation letter was subsequently sent to you as confirmation.

Regards

Dotsure ResolutionsTeam

Forgive me, I didn't have the time to go through a whole document while I was at the vet with my extremely sick pet. This key information should have been made clear on the phone by the sales person before I signed up with Dotsure. My pet got sick very quickly, and I had to react. I based my understanding off of what was stated on the phone, the document that was given to me that says my pet was covered at of the 5th March and the schedule that says what is covered. This 30 day period should have been made clear to me from the beginning. How can you say to a client read the information. When someone says that you think its general information, not critical information to me being able to help my pet. I have now signed with Medipet. They were upfront regarding their restrictions from the word go. It is the first thing they inform me of, what they are unable to do that could affect me and my pet BEFORE I took out the insurance. They don't sign you and then say read a document after you have agreed to a policy. I recommend people look at Medipet as a pet insurance option. They are far more honest, open, upfront, sympathetic with their customers and their cover.
