Be careful of Dotsure Pet Insurance
I have 4 dogs, who, since they have been puppies, are all insured with Dotsure. The monthly premium is nearly R2000.00. My one dog Lexy has been insured since 9 weeks old and she is now nearly 11 years old. I have never interrupted any premium payments on any of my dogs. The reason I have pet medical aid, is primarily in the event of emergency treatments that may be incurred and that may cost a lot. Veterinary expenses are very high and the medical aid should cover these exorbitant costs and also give one peace of mind that they are covered. Lexy is on the best policy with them.
Unfortunately, Lexy ruptured her cruciate ligament at the beginning of December 2024 and had to be operated on by a Vet Specialist. The total cost was R36 375.95 and I was refunded only R13 434.00, which is 36.93% of my total claim. I had to beg, borrow and ***** the remaining 63.07% of the money to cover this 63.07% cost. I have also had to take her to Physiotherapy, which has cost me to date, an additional R3950.00. Dotsure does not pay anything towards this. So now the percentage that they paid out drops to 33.31% and the Physio still has to be done for a few more weeks. I have tried to put my case forward to Dotsure to no avail. They have a claim limit on each claim, which is completely unrealistic. For instance, the Surgery cost was R17 686.18 and the claim limit is R6 900.00, which is nowhere near enough to cover the surgery and just ridiculous and ludicrous. Are they even aware of what Vets charge these days?
I am very disappointed in Dotsure and I am looking to change my pet medical aid. This serves as a warning to other pet owners who dearly love their pets and take the very best care of them. I feel I have been treated very poorly and betrayed by the bells and whistles that is Dotsure. Be aware, the cover you get is just pathetic and unreasonable!
