A Warranty That Doesn’t Warranty

I took out a mechanical warranty with Dotsure under the impression that it would actually help when something went wrong with my vehicle. The way they market their coverage makes you believe you’re protected, supported, and covered in the event of a mechanical breakdown.

The reality could not be further from the truth.

I recently submitted a claim for a major engine component valued at over R20,000. After all the back-and-forth, the assessor interrogation, the backtracking, and the internal “policy wording” gymnastics — Dotsure proudly approved a payout of R3,000.

Yes, R3,000 toward a R34,000 repair.

What exactly is any customer supposed to do with that?

This warranty is marketed as a safety net, but when you actually need help, you realize it’s nothing more than a false sense of security. They cover a tiny fraction of major repairs, hide behind wording, and make customers feel like they’re being interrogated instead of assisted.

To make it worse: • Their “approved” payouts don’t align with the real prices of engine components. • Their process is slow and confusing. • Their staff bounce you around between departments. • You end up having to fund almost the entire repair out of your own pocket anyway.

Why promote coverage that is almost meaningless in real-world situations?

I am now fixing the vehicle privately because it’s cheaper, faster, and less stressful than relying on this warranty. The component that Ford quoted at R18,800 can be found elsewhere for around R4,850 — which says everything about how inflated and unrealistic these “official channels” are.

Dotsure’s mechanical warranty feels like paying every month for protection that only covers a plaster when you break your leg.

Customers deserve transparency, not marketing illusions.

If you’re considering taking out a warranty with Dotsure, do yourself a favour and read real reviews first. Don’t learn the hard way like I did.
