Shocking Mercenary Behaviour in the Estate Agent Business!

I signed a rental agreement with this property group about 2 years ago. They were VERY efficient in ensuring I paid my rental every month, and were quick to follow up if I was getting close to the deadline date [righty so]. Until I gave notice. They came and did the inspection, and everything was perfect. In fact I received a thank you email for being wonderful tenants. Then the return of my deposit. This has not happened. Now a month later. They claim it is not their responsibility to return the deposit. IT is my responsibility to find out who the owner is, and get my money back. They say I should get a lawyer if I want my deposit back as it is not their responsibility. They even stated [this is the Principal of the Meyersdal agency- Genevieve] that their relationship and contract is with the owner and not us, and if we are not getting our money back it has nothing to do with them. What a shocking approach - no wonder estate agents have such a terrible reputation! It is completely mercenary with complete disregard of the people involved. They will not disclose the details of the owner as it is against their policy. This means - if you rent through this company and when you terminate your lease - be aware they are not interested in refunding you your deposit.
