Faulty shoes

I bought shoes from the Dodos in Khayelitsha on the 6 Jan 2023 and when I went to return the shoes two weeks back I was told the 30 days has expired and that is also for defective item and I was told the shoes were not used for what is intended.

How is shoes not used for what it’s intended when the child doesn’t play soccer or anything just wears them and I’m told it looks like the shoes are worn everyday, when should one wear they own shoes?

What happened to the consumer policy act for defective items?
