2nd Hnd Crane not in Working Condition as promised

Our company bought a 2nd hand crane from DMG in Nov 2014 and we collected the crane personally on the 18th. Unfortunately on fitting it, it became quite apparent that the crane was far from being in a working condition, although previous photos sent to us showed it working. Local crane specialist's opinions were that the crane had not been working for some time, and there was no way that the crane could have been working because the gears of the column were broken. We are realistic and understand that a 2nd hand crane sold, does not imply a new crane, however the crane was bought on the basis that it could immediately start working and that it was \good quality used equipment". Liam from DMG's argument was that if he had fitted the crane on our truck then there would have been no problems with the crane. Pictures of the broken and rusted parts were sent to Liam via our Lawyer but his argument was that he sold it \""voetstoots\"" because the crane was not fitted by his company. You can go the legal route but in the end your legal costs and time spent is not worth it. The cost spent to repair the crane was R120K and the costs did not stop there. """
