Vitality travel vehicle rental nightmare
Two weeks ago we rented a vehicle through Vitality Travel for a trip (through Discovery Bank). It has been nothing but a nightmare. The vehicle given to us had only 25000km on it but had been in a bad state as it was FULL of dents and scratches all around that I had to sign off in a damage report before we took it. As we drove to our destination, the more we drove, the more I had to counter-steer to keep the car straight until the steering wheel was 90 degrees to the side just to drive straight. The tires started screaming because the wheel alignment was non-existent and the front wheels both pointed in. I called Europcar (through which Discovery Vitality works) to come to collect their faulty car. (24 phone calls to multiple branches because they never pick up. It took me more than 5 HOURS to get hold of someone! And I have screenshots of my phone logs to prove it!) When someone came, I showed him exactly what was wrong. I made him take a test drive to see that the car was faulty and that there was NO damage from us. He agreed it was not our fault and guaranteed me that I would not be billed for the faulty car given to us. (We did not have an accident, did not bump the car, or drive into anything. Did not put a single scratch on the vehicle. We did not even hit a pothole. We only drove from the airport to our accommodation). They took the car away on a flatbed because it was undriveable. But Europcar charged me an additional R11000 and I didn’t get my deposit back either. Now they have charged me R18000 for what was a R6000 rental! And now I am back to not being able to reach anyone at Europcar because they do not pick up when you call.
Discovery is USELESS. 7 DAYS of ping-pong emails to Discovey and the only response I've gotten was asking for a reference number for the booking, over and over, even though I gave them them the number I had. THE BOOKING I MADE THROUGH THEM. THEN ONLY BOOKING I'VE EVER MADE.
Now I'm getting *****ed by R8000 and Discovery is as USELESS as they come. And it's NOT the first time I've had to deal with Discovery's "Helpdesk / support". There exists no such thing as customer support at Discovery!!!
