Vitality knew that benefits had not been activated but continued to deduct for 18 years
With reference to my ongoing complaint re Discovery VITALITY (initial date 21.08.2019) and my first Hellopeter letter of 18.12.2019 about how Vitality fleeced me of approximately R30 000 over 18 years by deducting a monthly premium under one debit order deduction called “medical aid contribution”, all the time I was completely unaware that a portion of my medical aid contribution was going to vitality, a product which I had NEVER used? Vitality’s response was, quote “We understand that you have not utilised any of the benefits however, we have sent numerous emails and text messages advising you of the Vitality benefits and we have also sent correspondence inviting you to activate the benefits we have available.” What a cheek… they “sent correspondence INVITING ME TO ACTIVATE the benefits” so there is proof, they admit knowing that I was not using the product and that no benefits had been activated. Why did they not inform me that I was paying a monthly premium for the unused product? Why did they not draw my attention to the amount which was being deducted which formed NO part of the medical aid contribution? Why did they not ask me if I understood what I was paying for and the product itself? Or ask me if I wished to continue paying or at least be given the option to cancel it? How can this not be covered by the Consumer Protection Act… where is my signed acknowledgement? How can an organisation of that size not have a contract which must be renewed to authorise the withdrawal of funds for a product which has nothing to do the with medical aid product. The problem is, that we have been very satisfied with Discovery Health /Medical Aid BUT they separate themselves from Vitality when it suits them and Vitality hide behind the Discovery banner when it suits them too! with no-one being accountable. How many other people have also paid thousands without realising? seriously unimpressed, daniel
