********* Behavior and Fairness
In Dec '15 I decided to move from my Fitbit device to the Apple watch (given that it was such a good deal) as part of the Discovery Rewards program, which was achievable. In Jan '16, the points rewards structure changed in terms of how the points were calculated and earned, without any notification or pre-warning from Discovery. However, I managed to accumulate my weekly 1200 points with a combination of daily steps and gym visits.I received an email on 3 March '16 informing me that the points reward system will change yet again. I investigated the changes and realized that even if I visit the gym 7 days a week, I will only make 58% of my weekly goal points. The most annoying thing, is that now I need to pay to partake in \organized events\" to earn points AND I don't even have any interest in doing either running, swimming or cycling events! This raised another few questions: 1. Why should I pay to partake in organized events to earn points? 2.Who are the financial benefiting organisers of these events? In the past I had a choice in terms of the type of activity I could participate in to earn points, now I'm forced to do prescribe organised events, this is not what I signed up for"
Thank you for your post.
Vitality is a wellness brand and as a scientific-based wellness programme we strive to deliver on Discovery's core purpose of making people healthier. To do this, we need to reward members for clinically relevant and verifiable exercise.
To ensure our benefits work optimally to achieve this objective, we need to constantly refine them to meet the feedback of our members as well as adjust to how we see the impact on behaviour of the benefits.
We still offer many ways for our members to earn fitness points, and Vitality members won't have to miss out on their Vitality Active Rewards goals. We are placing more emphasis on data which is both verifiable and clinically relevant, but they can still earn up to 3 000 Vitality points in one exercise session a day by taking part in certain activities with one of our partner devices.
In addition, we acknowledge that these points changes will impact our members on Vitality Active Rewards and we have therefore decided to recalculate every Vitality Active Rewards members' goal in order to account for these changes.
Regards
Discovery Vitality
