Subject: Unfair and Misleading Vitality Trial Enrollment

A few months ago, I was contacted by a Discovery consultant who offered me a 3-month free trial of the Vitality plan. I specifically asked the consultant whether the plan would automatically renew after the trial period, and I was assured that it would not. I was told that Discovery would notify me once the trial was coming to an end, at which point I could decide whether to continue with the plan or not.

However, I never received any notification from Discovery regarding the end of the trial. To my surprise, I was debited R399 this month. When I called in to enquire, I was informed that the charge was for the Vitality plan – a service I never agreed to continue.

I then requested the call recording to verify the information that was given to me, as the plan was clearly sold under misleading pretenses. I was told the recording would be available within three days. After five days, I followed up, only to be told that the investigation was still pending because the consultant had not filled in the required details on their side.

I made another call to request to speak with the original consultant. A helpful lady assisted me and assured me that she had reached out to the original consultant, who would contact me later that day. To date, I have received no feedback or follow-up.

This experience has been deeply disappointing. It feels as though misleading information was used to get me to opt into a plan I did not agree to continue. Had I known that the trial would roll over without notification contrary to what I was told, I would never have accepted it.

I am requesting that this matter be resolved urgently, and that the unauthorized charge be reversed
