Once again moving goalposts, slashing benefits

Have you received the e-mail with the euphemistic subject line: “NEW! More Discovery Card partners to earn up to 10x Discovery Miles - Your Discovery Card just got more rewarding!”? Then brace yourself for the surprise hidden in the fine print. Let us take this example: Your Vitality status is Bronce and you buy for R150.00 at a Discovery partner like Nando´s or Cape Union Mart. Today: Cashback = 12% of R150.00 = R18.00 In future: R150/15 = 10 Discovery miles x 2 (for Bronce) = 20 miles, 10 miles = R1.00, resulting in a theoretical return of R2.00. Not really cashback anymore, because purchases with that are restricted to Discovery partners. But that´s not all. Remember, in 2017 you had to pay R420.00 to get the miles benefit (probably much more in 2018). In order to get this money back you need to spend at least R420 x 15/2 x 10 = R31,500.00 at Discovery partners. In other words, for the first R31,500 you spend in a year you get back NOTHING. Dear Vitality people! How long will you continue to insult the intelligence of your customers? Up to the point where they run away in droves? Watch out, that point may be nigh!
