Gym membership decievement

So I am moving from Planet fitness to Virgin active. Reasons being the Planet Fitness I am registered to is bit out of the way and when I have time to go to the gym there is a queue because of covid. I do not have time to stand in a queue, only have a hour frame and waiting causes me not being able to do a proper workout. My work require me to be at office so I can not just gym anytime I want. The Virgin Active is right across from my house and is bigger so has more capacity so it is more convenient. . I was told by a Virgin Active sales rep because I am a Vitality member I do not have to pay a joining/activity fee for their September promotion. I have already canceled my membership with Planet Fitness before having knowledge of this promotion from Virgin Active.

So hearing about this promotion of Virgin Active I thought this is perfect, let me join, It is Covid time, best not to spend money if you do not have to.

Now virgin active tells me I can not get the no joining fee promotion because Planet Fitness still have my gym membership of Vitality. Talked to both Planet Fitness and Vitality and just told that cant do anything to help.

Vitality just said I have to pay the joining fee at Virgin Active when my gym membership is released form Planet Fitness. Only reason I decided to join was because of the no joining fee.

When I moved form Virgin Active to planet fitness I never had this issue.

I feel deceived and really frustrated. I was told I do not have to pay a R620 joining fee and now I do. That is a lot of money for me.
