Disgusting service by Discovery Vitality

I am appalled by the service with Discovery. I app**** for Vitality Membership in Sepremier 2018 and it became applicable as per their confirmation from 1 October 2018. Upon application I was informed that I no longer had any outstanding matter and that the amount for fees will be deducted from my salary along with my medical aid deduction. Upon review of my salary slip I have seen that my employer has deducted the applicable fee at the end of Oct.

I have in the interim joined Virgin Active, bought a gear device and also activated this via my app and paid the relevant fees. However yesterday I saw an email which confirmed cancellation of my Vitality Membership effective from 30 September 2018. The claim was that there was outstanding fees.

Upon enquiry to Discovery I was informed by Tanny Mpetshwa (WRefNo# ********** 290#- -MailRef# ********** 032) that my cancellation was due to outstanding fees however this is now a matter that I need to discuss with my employer which provides group deductions to Discovery. As such Discovery did not find it ethical or necessary to first contact me and to advise me regarding a possible error.

I have asked for immediate reinstatement and indicated willingness to repay for the 1 month (actually 1 weeks) outstanding fees. However this was declined with a very non customer centric email regarding reinstatement post next payment on 1 December via my employer.

I have informed Tanny that I am no longer employed at the previous employer effective from end October2018 so it seems that I have no solution provided for my issue.

Why was I not contacted regarding a service which I committed to pay and for which I am liable to pay? Why was my membership simply suspended until payment as opposed to full outright cancellation. This was at no fault from my end and I am shocked by the disgusting service by Vitality.

Now it seems that no one is bothered regarding my gym membership fees and other costs without Vitality. If this is not resolved with full membership I will be taking legal action and complaining to the Customer Complaints Commission of SA as my rights as a consumer has been violated by Discovery and I am now adversely affected with fees and payments deducted for Vitality booster benefits.

Regards Kevin
