Discovery Vitality Virgin Active Discount Percentage

Vitality decided that to motivate me to exercise, they would decrease my discount percentage at virgin active because I am not attending gym as often as I need to-to keep my gym membership fee at R370 per month.

I feel attacked because vitality doesn’t know what I go through on a daily basis and why I am not in the gym every day.

I’ve been struggling with finding the motivation to work out the way I used to, to the point where I had to stop attending gym altogether because my mental health was being compromised by the amount of pressure I was putting on myself to lose the weight I’d gained.

It was a really trying time and I had to sit with myself and figure out the best way for me to reintroduce gym back into my daily life because of the fact that being in the gym, thinking about gym, looking for low impact workouts sent me into fight or flight because my mental health surrounding weight loss was compromised.

To know that they used my lack of attendance to make the decision to increase my gym fee to R645 per month is insulting, it’s offensive and it’s triggering.

If this is their idea of trying to inspire their members who pay for their services every month to be more active and attend gym more often it’s extremely tone deaf and irresponsible for a brand of this calibre and for a brand that is supposed to prioritise health and well being. I am extremely disappointed in Discovery Vitality.

I feel like you guys have triggered me and I now know why I’m in bed feeling so low tonight. It’s because you’ve just reminded me of everything I’ve had to struggle through to get back to a healthy self-concept, back to a mental space where I don’t beat myself up for the weight I’ve gained or make myself feel less than because I’m not a size 34 anymore.

You have not inspired me by doubling my membership fee. You’ve reminded me of my struggles and compromised my well being.
