Discovery Apple Watch Benefit - moving of goal posts agreed to in contract by Discovery

In a nutshell, this is my experience with Discovery Vitality Apple watch benefit (I'll give more details below):

I signed a contract with Discovery on 23 Feb 2016 to purchase an Apple watch, using certain Active Rewards pre-determined measurements to pay for the watch. On 2 April 2016, Discovery Vitality changed their measures such that I can no longer meet the requirements to pay for the watch.

Numerous calls and emails to the Discovery team only elicists standard responses from their operators about how to earn points, and defending their rights to change the contract clauses whenever they wish to.

Here are the extra details and timeline if this needs fleshing out:

on 26 January 2016 I purchased a Fitbit device, and registered for the Discovery Active Rewards benefit. For 4 weeks I proved that I could meet the requirements to achieve the weekly goals set by Discovery based on the number of steps I take in a day, as measured by my Fitbit tracker.

During this time, I also confirmed with Discovery that if I signed up for the Apple Watch benefit, I could give the watch to someone else (my husband, in this case), as long as I continued to achieve my weekly activity goals for the duration of the contract, as measured by my Fitbit tracker. From the time I signed up until 31 March (an 11 week period), I was achieving in excess of 1000 points a week, and my goal had not yet moved beyond 450 points.

On 2 April, Discovery moved the goal posts. They changed how they allocate points, and now, no matter how many steps I do in a day, I cannot achieve more than 100 points. This means that once my target exceeds 700 points in a week, I physically cannot meet the requirements (it also doesn't allow for any rainy days or any sick days - but that's another story). Already in just 6 weeks, my points goal set by Discovery has risen to 600, even though I have never scored more than 500 points in any of those weeks. By the end of May, all things being equal, my goal will exceed 700 points in a week. Even if it merely equals 700 points, it's still only just achievable, assuming that every day of every week for the next 22 months I have to walk 10,000 steps, come rain or shine.

Beyond this, from what I've been able to work out based on what's available on the Discovery website, there is no upper limit on what Discovery can move the target up to. Ultimately, they may require than one does 7 ultra marathons a week, if they so wish.

This was not what I signed up for. I entered into the contract with Discovery having responsibly assessed and proven my ability to meet the requirements. And, as I say, then they moved the goal posts.
