Discovery Apple Watch

Hi

I got the Apple watch offer from Discovery in which you get a watch (After paying a R600 fee and getting a Discovery Credit Card from which they deduct funds by debit) and based on your activity, your installment is automatically calculated.

I don't user the Discovery Credit card at all, the account is just their to pay for the watch. Almost a year after using the watch, I'm told by Discovery to pay roughly R6000 back since they were unable to collect the funds from my account. When I queried with them, their reason is the following:

" AR1: Hi, unfortunately, we have been unable to collect penalties since October 2017 because member's primary plastic card linked to his Card account has been inactive. Member was sent a final warning on 08/03/2018. Member will need to settle the outstanding amount with the SSDA."

So they're using, because I haven't used my Discovery Credit card, they cannot debit my account?! What does the card have to do with my account - that is active btw since every month they still deduct my administration fee of roughly R90..

It's very easy for them not to admit that it's their system that's full of problems and point the finger to me and tell me to pay..

It's absolutely ridicules.

Here is my response to them after they came back with the reason above:

"Thanks for the response.

The response from the Apple team doesn’t make any sense to me. My account is active, although my card isn’t being used since it was ****** – I didn’t get another card since I only use it to pay for the watch.

How can an inactive card effect my debit or with Discovery? Also, they have full authorization to deduct the premiums each month.

The fact that the card is inactive, doesn’t mean they cannot deduct the amounts – this was a system mistake on their end.

I would like to know how the card is relevant to an active account in terms of them not being able to deduct.

I cannot simply say “oh ok, let me pay you R6000 for your system mistake”..

I trust you understand – I’ll wait for their feedback.

Also, I haven’t received any phone calls about this prior being handed over – the discovery emails ALWAYS ends up in my junk mail, which I barely check. So it is a requirement for them to call me and ensure I’ve been formerly informed. "

So I now need to wait for them again..and deal with the company they asked to hand me over.

Thanks Discovery, I will be moving all my medical aid to a different provider as soon as possible and definitely motivate not to use your services anymore..
