Discounted Rates Misleading

I would like to know why the discounted rate Discovery is giving me on their website the same if not cheaper than booking with airlines directly when booking flights. The same has been the same for accommodation. I am asking because it appears that as a vitality member I need to work hard to keep a status but there is no benefit in numerous instances when I can book directly with airlines and properties.
