Unfair Treatment

I have a life policy X with Discovery Life. All these years policy X (covered both me n my husband) and premiums coming of as one policy. We then received a call from one of Discovery Brokers around October 2020 who advised us to separate the policies so that should one of us have to claim from the policy, the other doesn’t get affected, and also advised that the premiums will be much less this way. We then completed online applications with no changes to cover amounts but only change being now we have Policy Y(mine) and Policy Z (husband) whose cover amounts equal Policy X but total premiums a bit less than X To our surprise at the end of October two debit orders came through, one for Policy Y with correct amount, and Policy Y premium was now X+R400! We tried calling the broker Mr Tobin who promised us that he will fix the error and get a refund to us, the following months he came up with the same story, premiums still not fixed. The error is not fixed until today(April 2021). We then decided to reverse debit orders for my policy Y with the understanding that the new premium Z would cover Y. Unfortunately I have been getting endless calls and emails from Discovery to say that my policy Y is in arrears. I tried explaining that we are still paying premium X which should cover both Y and Z (plus refund of R400) and I am told that the agreement which I had with the broker is not on record so Discovery doesn’t take responsibility for that agreement, I have to pay for this policy Y. As frustrating as this is my husband was given forms by Discovery in March 2021 which were meant to correct premiums for Policy Z. He completed the forms and sent back, but at the end of March the debit order was still (X+R400). This time around they did not deduct additional premium for Y. I then received a call from Discovery on 1 April 2021 to say that my policy Y is in arrears, that I should fix this error myself, I should call Discovery Broker House directly because now Discovery cannot fix the error themselves. Frustrating as this is, it means that should anything happen to me today, I will not be covered by insurance as my policy is in arrears whereas debit orders are being deducted for what we don’t know. We now have to run from pillar to post trying to fix the mess which we didn’t ask for in the first place. We were happy with the original policy. Now are are paying the premium for that original policy Plus, Plus the new Premium for Y, Plus the extra +_R400 and yet one of us is not covered for reasons known by Discovery and undisclosed to us. We are now told that we made arrangements with the broker not Discovery! Who gave those ****** brokers our contact numbers in the first place? We didn’t know anybody from Discovery Broker House before they called us! We need our money back. I’m sure we can get better service elsewhere, Discovery is not the only life insurer in SA. We just want our money back.
