Poor Ethics

My dad took a life insurance policy with a Discovery Agent in 2007. At the age of 57 his premiums were obviously quiet high...with it growing to approximately R980pm. Unfortunately my dad passed on in October 2017. My mum decided to claim out this policy, only to be told that the funds were unavailable to her as there was no nominated beneficiary on inception of the policy. I am perturbed by the fact that common sense should have prevailed when the policy was taken and captured onto Discovery systems that nobody questioned that a Life Policy does not have a Beneficiary. What a display of unprofessionalism! Now my mother who is a pensioner has to engage a lawyer at her expense to sort out paperwork and winding out from the state. After all is said and done, she will be left with excessive bills without an income to support this or hope of any payout from this policy that they paid loyally for so many years even after my dad retired and earned only a state grant. It is appauling that any institution gets rich off the blood and sweat of the elderly. Utter abuse!!! This is a matter of gross negligence on the part of the Discovery agent and the members of their team that processed this policy. I do not recommend this product to any person young or old for the mere fact that this is nothing more than a money making scheme that *****s from the elderly. Truly disappointed by such pathetic service rendered thereafter even by the Agent.
