Lost 7 years of investment on my dollar life coz I can’t afford to continue it

I have had and payed for discovery dollar life for over 7 years now I am unable to continue with policy and when asking my broker if I would receive any of my contributions back I was told that only at 60 years of age and if I don’t pay for 3 months I lose everything surely I must be able to get some of it back it is a policy or is this just a way for discovery to get free money I am shocked why can’t I claim some of it back
