I joined Discovery Life in October 2016 and regularly paid my monthly premiums. In April two deductions were made on April 8th 2017. I was not in arrears and found it strange. The first debit was paid and the second reversed by my Bank. I queried this with Discovery Life (Ref # ********** 964). After prolonged communication Discovery insisted that I was in arrears and attemted to recover the returned premium over the next two months. They refered the matter back to me to take up with my Bank. My Bank Manager confirmed that Discovery Life made a mistake and that no unpaid premiums were owing. Nonetheless Discovery proceded to cancel my Policy without informing me directly.

Why did they attempt to double debit me on the 8th April? Why did they unilateraly cancell my policy?

I find the circumstances suspicious and questionable and will refer this matter to the Ombudsman and the SAPS for further investigation. If any Discovery Life Policy holders happens to read this, please check your bank statements for any irregularities as the only logical conclusion that we have arrived at is that there may be foul play involved.
