Discovery Life
It is with sincere regret that I find this review necessary, I have had investments in Discovery for life insurance and income protection for many years. Had I known that Discovery are so disorganized, I would not have invested elsewhere. Almost 6 months ago I sustained 2 disabling injuries necessitating 3 surgeries and 6 months off work. How does one work when your arms are not well connected to shoulders anymore? (bilateral rotator cuff tears) One shoulder was reconstructed in September 2022, during which time I was booked off for work. 6 weeks later, my left shoulder was reconstructed. Amended medical certificated, extending my sick leave: have been emailed to Discovery on no less than 3 occasions in November 2022. Discovery are unable to read a medical certificate which states I am booked off completely from 27 July to 11 January 2023. Discovery have decided that they will only pay 50% of my monthly insured sum for November 2022. I disputed this early in December 2022 and received the balance of November's payout. Nothing for December, what a joyous Christmas with no funds. Thanks Discovery, so thoughtless. I called Discovery life yesterday, they could not work out what was happening and had recorded that from 1 November I was on part time work and paid only 50% for November. The balance for November was 50% paid on 15 December 2022. When I enquired today as to where my payout was for December 2022, I was told they paid it out on 15 December. Mean time, that was the balance of November's payout. The consultant I spoke to (didn't record her name) assured me that the manager of claims would assess the matter and refer back to me by yesterday afternoon. This never happened. When I called today, I was told the same story. I resent the sick notes (4th time) and await a reply from Discovery claims as to whether I will be paid out for December before my Discovery premiums, among others, are debited from my account. I've had about as much as I can tolerate from being messed around. I am a single income woman, self employed and dependent on a policy which I pay dearly for every month. This is the best Discovery can do? Money potentially not well invested if they can't read a simple sick note. Happy holidays Discovery! :( To put the icing on the cake, my broker has not returned my voice messages.
