Discovery just continually keeps digging at old wounds

I have been going back and fourth with discovery life’s third party service provider Jeff something. Last year was a very bad year for me and went through alot. I was in hospital for over a month in February thereafter we had an armed break in my husband was held at gun point AND shot at. They stole from us. A few months down the line I was having trouble sleeping etc etc. I went to a psychiatrist and also started seeing a psychologist. I was put on the lowest dose of anti depressants. I would also like to mention that I have discovery medical aid and car and household insurance. So they are very much aware of these incidents, from a medical perspective they fought me to pay for medication that the doctor had prescribed the doctor had to write a letter motivating the medication. So imagine spending a month in hospital and then having to fight for payment. That was February. In March/April the break in happened I still had to fight with the insurance department to get my items. On one end I’m relieving trauma from hospital on the other end I’m reliving trauma from a *******. I think I only managed to sort things out in June. So this year 2024 September im getting a quote for life insurance. They tell me that because im on treatment for anxiety there are certain benefits I can’t get BUT my premium doesn’t change. So I pay the same premium BUT with an exclusion. So basically im being penalized for seeking help and getting treatment. The treatment is over I’m currently weaning off the medication.I nolonger have to see my psychiatrist. BUT I have to pay the same premium I would pay WITH THAT BENEFIT BUT I DONT HAVE THE BENEFIT. Mind you the process isn’t easy I have to keep telling strangers personal traumatic things AND ALSO BE TOLD THAT OH BY THE WAY YOU SORT HELP SO WE ARE GOING TO PENALIZE YOU FOR THAT?!? I’m extremely disappointed and hurt by how discovery as an organization has treated me over the past two years . I’m very very hurt to say the least. I’m honestly tired and will begin the process of finding a new service provider.

1. I understand how underwriting works and how risk matrix work. I have a masters in finance. I also completed wrote and finished the cfa exams in record time . I never failed an exam. And was in the top 10% globally for those exams. I completely understand how this works.
2. I also expected that after a complaint is made then as opposed to using a group average as part of your risk assessment you would consider individual needs. Or at the very least listen to me.
3. What you responded with if I could post a screenshot I would “We would first like to sincerely acknowledge the incredibly challenging time you have been through. The difficulties you faced last year are unimaginable, and we are truly sorry for the pain and stress these events have caused you. Seeking help and support during such a time was a brave and necessary step, and we want to express our deepest empathy for the emotional toll these experiences have had on you and your family. ”
4. That doesn’t make sense if at all , if that was true you would train your consultants in EVERY department on how to talk to people with said empathy. You have someone asking you about miscarriages without pre telling the person that “hi trigger warning before we proceed we are going to ask personal questions are you comfortable to proceed “ never happened
5. Let’s go back to your standard risk matrix. I sort help after terrible events without any prompt . I also exercise regularly and take care of myself. I’m extremely self aware and rational. After said events I did not begin drinking or used any drugs as a coping mechanisms. That’s as low risk as it comes. But you trained your consultants to say “because of treatment for anxiety, we are excluding the capital benefit if you cause self harm.” You could have given a 1 year waiting period but nope that was the response lol
6. You then sent me a counter offer again filled with errors … whilst showing “empathy” you sent me to a nurse who again I had to retell all these things no trigger warning nobody checked oops hi would you be comfortable proceeding. Nope but you empathize….. right ?!? I’m not complaining about the nurse she was very lovely. I’m simply pointing out that you have no procedures in place that account for any mental health. I have a discovery bank account. I requested the policy be put in usd that’s not there. I did your designated health test with your nurse . But it says test not showing ?!?
7. Even after complaining the said organization didn’t bother to check that all my information is captured correctly.

Back to your blanket exclusion policy. A two year waiting period for self harm sounds like a fair incorporation that accounts for the risk esp since I don’t have a diagnosed illness also considering I am weaning off my meds and nolonger have to see a doctor. But your generalization says that if person takes this do this ?!?

I had one initial phone call with the life plan department. During the initial phone call, she asked about miscarriages I told her. I then went to the discovery building and did their required health test with a nurse. The nurse asked me if I’ve been hospitalized for more than 30days I said yes. She asked what happened I told her in grave detail about my miscarriage in discovery’s response whilst showing empathy they told me I clicked no. How does it make sense that they book you for a health test but don’t have information captured, but are very quick to try point out my errors. Good to know that’s how the organization handles things. I no-longer want to proceed with this. Have a lovely day further

Please tell whoever wrote that letter. That it would be nice to check if my details are captured correctly. Please call the nurse who took my medical history call her and ask her if I told her about my hospitalization call her and ask her if I told her in grave detail about everything but you have the audacity to say I **** when I didn’t ? We had a lovely chat about it.

How is something thoroughly reviewed if your letter includes things from said thorough review?
