Beware of Discovery Life

My name is S Khan, I am a Discovery Medical Aid and Life Client.

In 2017, I cancelled my excellent Liberty policy, which I had for 14 years. Reason being, Dicovery Life offered a Purple Life Insurance Plan which is available to clients who take more than R10 million Life Cover (at the time, I had a policy with Discovery for R5 million). I thought their Purple Life offer was great, so I upped my cover with Dicovery Life to the Purple Life Plan

Discovery made me sign an application form which allows them full permission to check into my Discovery Health records, or any other medical records, as set out by clause 12.9. The clause clearly states that Dicovery has the authorisation to check my medical aid history in order to approve this policy.

Being a Discovery Medical Aid client, I feel dissatisfied and disappointed that my Severe Illness Claim was not paid out after my health incident (all premiums were paid). Discovery’s reason for not paying was due to “non disclosure”, which is impossible since they had my medical aid history all along. They also had 2 opportunities to check all of the medical history. Once at inception of the Life Policy and again when I upgraded to the Purple Plan.

IMAGINE!! I am still alive by the grace of God. They refused to pay my Severe Illness Claim. If I had died after my severe illness, what would have happened to my family? Simple answer: the R10 Million Life Cover would have been DENIED! In my opinion, if you love and care for your family members, then do NOT insure with Discovery Life!
