Wrongfully debited and general incompetance

I was a happy client of Discovery insure for three years. No issues, other than the premium going up a bit too much recently, which resulted in me having to shop around for a better premium (which i got at R400 less). I made an appointment to get the tracking device removed from my car. The earliest i could get was two months away, but that was fine by me. A week after i switched insurers, i was called to say they had a cancelation for the tracker removal, so they could fit me in. I planned my whole day around it, and agreed. The technician was quite good, he kept in contact with me during the day to say he was running late etc. Not ideal, but what can we do? I eventually get a call to say he couldn't find my address, only to figure out that they were looking in the wrong city! So that was a waste of time and effort. I called and told them i was unhappy, and confirmed if my original booking was still in place, and made sure it was the correct city.

First month went by, and everything was fine. On the second month my account was debited by R1180. I thought that was strange, because if they had made a mistake, one would expect it in the first month after cancelling the policy. So i called in. I was told that it was an error on their part. It was a penalty for a tracking device, but not for the current car that still had the tracking device, but for a car that was removed from my policy two years ago. I found this rather strange and unacceptable. The car was removed two years ago. How do they make a mistake like that? Its almost like they just randomly debit past clients accounts to see if they can get away with it.

They appologised, and said i would get my money back within 7 working days. Now for someone who was desperate enough to have to relook at their finances and make changes to save money (and switch insurers), it is rather inconvienient being out of R1180!

Next came my original tracking device removal appointment. I waited for the time. The technician called to say they couldn't find the street. Guess what? They were looking in the wrong city again! This made me mad, having waited a whole two months for this. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. The person was extremely helpful and arranged for a technician to come out to me immediately. So, what was the problem? They had my city wrong on their system. I'm not sure how that is even possible, when you've been tracking my whereabouts for three years! Anyway, that was finally sorted. Now to get my money back.

By the 10th working day, i was starting to get more and more anxious about this lack of money. I called again, and this time it was escalted to the team leader. They obviously didn't think R1180 was enough to escalate it in the first place? I finally got my money back, 2 weeks later, and i'm sure they would have been happy to keep it had i not followed up so persistantly.

I am so dissappointed with Discovery. I loved their product. It was innovative and perfect for me. Too bad their only concern is making money these days.
