Write off woes - Discovery rips you off

Claim ********** | Policy ********** 679

I was involved in an accident on Easter Monday where a vehicle rear ended me while standing at the robot, causing me to crash into the vehicle in front of me. I was notified 2 days later that my vehicle was written off. I then went onto the Discovery portal, it displayed that I am insured for the retail value R59400 and my radio was insured for and additional R4000. I assumed that I would possibly be able to replace the vehicle for R63400. That’s where I was wrong. Everything was smooth sailing and efficient until I received my letter indicating what I was being paid out.

1) They CHANGED the retail value. It dropped by R6500 to R52900 (my premium is based on R59400)

2) My radio was dropped from R4000 to R800 (??? My premium is based on R4000)

3) They “adjusted” the price (R5000) of the vehicle due to damages not relating to the accident. These damages (scratches) pre-existed on the vehicle prior to me commencing insurance with them. I went for a pre-assessment at Glasfit which I assumed passed the information on. Therefore, based on the assessment, they would have had these damages on file and my vehicles value would have been adjusted accordingly from the onset?

4) Less another R3500 for the excess (Discovery boasts that if it was not your fault and the other party is insured…you will not be charged excess…BS!!!)

Therefore, from my initial assumption of being settled with R63400, they offered me a meagre R45200…almost R20K short.

So it seems, you pay your premium for what you think you are being covered for, but, when the time comes for them to hold up their end of the deal, they try and RIP YOU OFF!!! I am being treated like this accident is my fault. Pay me what I’m due, I will stay a happy customer and you go and ******* the guy that broke my car…is that not fair?

I did not accept their settlement and asked for the manager to contact me. It’s been a week so far and nothing. So I asked to be contacted again this morning…so far…nothing.

Now, I have 2 weeks left to find a replacement vehicle because the car hire will no longer be available :(

So disappointed (and furious)

Based on my rant...I am trying to say, if I pay a premium for a product, I expect the same value in return...that would be fair. I didnt short pay you for the past few years I've been with Discovery. So, why would you do that to me? This has already been a taxing process, why add to it?
Please fix this
