When submitting a claim don't accept any service....but they will gladly send you the premium increase.

After submitting a claim via the app to Discovery Insure on 28 Feb 2017. I had to phone the call centre to hear wat was happening on my claim the next day as nothing was happening one the claim.

At which point two of their contractors was assigned to my claim, a carpet installer and a building specialist.

The carpet installer contacted me promptly and a appointment was setup and kept.

The building specialist canceled his meeting with me the first time and had me sitting waiting half the day on a Saturday and then called 20 min before the meeting time to say that he will not be able to make it on time.

He did come later that afternoon…

Forwarding to a week later with no feedback from Discovery Insure I called them on Friday 10 March 2017 and guess what……all of the Discovery employees was given the day off as it was Discovery’s B-Day?

Calling the following Monday I was informed that my claim was denied due to a building design defect?

Asking for a explanation and the exact criteria that caused the claim to be denied I was sent a part of the report.

This was wat I received:

REPORT:

The water entry is from under the slab due to excessive rains which build up on the outside.

The excessive water penetrates under the foundation and protrudes back into the slab causing water damp on the interior walls.

The client has a 1.5 m side path around the house but this is not adequate to stop the water that free falls from a gutter less roof.

The water ****ing around the " L " shape wall can only be fixed if the client builds a '' retaining '' wall with at least a 600 mm deep and 300 mm away from the main wall. Installation of gutters will also assist in controlling the amount of water seeping through under the slab causing interior damage.

This is a building design defect and requires to be attended to by the client.

Asking to speak to a manager I was informed that she was not available and that I will receive a call from her asap. No call was received, not that I was expecting one but you can hope….

Also no complete report was given to completely inform me of the reason the claim was denied….I would think that should be the minimum that I as a customer can expect from my Insurer.

Now to see if I get any meaningful response from Discovery Insure?
