Very bad customer service, 3 weeks of running around
We had a ******* at my house on the 13th of February 2019 where 3 armed robers got away with several items from our house including our car which was located by my tracker within hours. I called discovery on the same day to lodge an insurance claim, I held on the line for a long time before getting assistance, after the process I was told the claim has been allocated to someone who would advice on the next steps. No one called until my wife had to call the following day to get information.
Again days went by without any contact from Discovery and we kept having to phone for updates without success some of the time. I was then told to put together a list of ****** items and proof of ownership as well as get quotations for everything. I then spent time doing what I was told and the list came up to 31 ****** items and got a total replacement amount from the quotations which I immediately sent to Discovery.
I received no response for days until I had to start calling and emailing again. I finally got approval to be paid out after days of back and forth. To my amazement, the letter I got back from discovery said that we claimed for 20 items and they authorized 19? The amount they authorized was only a third of the actual cost of replacement I got after going through the whole quotation process for days. I then called back and was told they did their quotations and found that the money they are offering is what they got quoted on from their suppliers and that it was a fair amount.
These amounts are so ridiculous the guy I spoke to over the phone couldn't find a single item online for the amount they were proposing. e.g they offered me R 4 699 for a 65" LED TV which sells for R10 000 cheapest, R 1 299 for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 which Sells for R 15 500 currently, R189 for 6 Camp Chairs, R5 499 for an iMac 27" currently selling for over R 30 000 at the iStore and a mere R809 for a set of 5.1 Pioneer Andrew Jones Speakers. This is just to name a few things they got on the list, let alone items they never bothered to consider.
I have been trying to get an explanation as to how they come up with these prices and what happened to the other items on the list and no one will reply to my emails and phone calls despite several messages to be called back. This claim has been going on for 3 weeks now and I still don't have my home contents, The police called me and told me Discovery hadn't collected my car from the impound, so It looks like I won't have my car back for a while as well.
We pay for insurance every month to have peace of mind that should anything haven to our valuables, they will be replaced without having to go through so much pain but Discovery doesn't care about you when it is their turn to pay and will do anything to give you the runaround until you give up and take the little they are offering just to go on with your life.

The aim of insurance is to get one back to the state where they were before, which you are refusing to do. When my car was ******, it had a balance of 10 months warranty with a service plan which it now doesn't.
