Unpleasant Experience: Discovery Insurance's Rejected Claim and Continued Premium Debit
I am writing this review to express my disappointment with Discovery Insurance regarding a recent insurance claim that was unfortunately rejected. Our experience has left us frustrated and disheartened, especially given the circumstances surrounding the incident. To provide some context, our house, which is a rental property, recently experienced a break-in. To our surprise, the insurance claim we submitted was rejected on the grounds that the alarm system was not connected to an armed response. This revelation came as a shock to us, as we were not aware that the alarm in the rental house was not linked to an armed response service. Living in St Helena Bay, we have always considered our location to be relatively safe. This lack of awareness about the alarm system's configuration was exacerbated by the fact that the property is a rental, and the information regarding the alarm setup was not adequately communicated to us. On the night of the incident, our seven-month-old baby was asleep, necessitating a quiet environment within the house. As a result, we made the decision not to activate the alarm system to avoid any disturbances that might disturb our child's sleep. Little did we know that this decision would later be used as a basis for the rejection of our insurance claim. What adds to the frustration is that we were inside the house during the break-in. The emotional toll of having our home invaded while we were present, especially with a young baby in the house, cannot be overstated. This incident has not only caused financial strain due to the loss of valuables but has also left us with lasting emotional damage. We understand the importance of security measures, but the rejection of our claim due to the alarm system's configuration, of which we were unaware, seems unjust. We believe that the circumstances surrounding our case should be taken into consideration, given the unique situation of being in a rental property and the perceived safety of our location. And even though the claim was rejected, Discovery continued to debit the full amount of our premium every month.
