Unfair and *********** treatment
On 08/02/25 I hit a big rock with my left rear tyre as I was turning at a stop.My immediate response was to stop and check for any damages to the car and physically, there were none.As I drove off,the car started making a loud knocking sound.I drove back home and called Discovery Insure, whom I have been insured with for more than 15 years now.The car was towed away and ended up at a panel beating company. On 03/03/25,the panel beaters called to say the car was ready but could not be released due to the excess not being paid.I didn't understand this because I had already authorized Discovery Insure to pay the R5000 from my Insure Funder Account. After a few calls to the insurer,I went to pick my car up on 04/03/25.The shock that I got,to discover that the issue that my car had initially gone in for,was not resolved. Instead, repairs amounting to over R24 000 had been done, apparently to the right side of the front bumper and the right front tyre rim.Once.again I called Discovery Insure to inform them about this and after a conference call between them, the panel beaters and their assessors, a decision was made to send my car to a Diff. specialist to assess the initial problem. The assessment was finally done and the report sent to Discovery Insure on 18/03/25,five weeks post my reporting the initial incident. On 24/03/25,Discovery Insure informed me via email that my claim had been declined because the assessment revealed that the problem couldn't have been due to the impact of the incident on 08/02/25.I enquired from the Diff.Specialists on 25/03/25 if they could give me a cheaper price to fix the problem seeing as the insurer had declined the claim Unfortunately, they could only reduce it from R41 237.05 to R39 946.75.I then requested that they reassemble my car so that I can fetch and find an alternative solution.Unfortunately, they couldn't release my car because there's a fee that needs to be paid for reassembling.I called Discovery Insure on 01/04/25 to inquire about this and they informed me on 02/04/25 that the panel beaters are the ones that must pay for this and that they, the panel beaters would call me once this was done.I had to call the panel beaters on 03/04/25 to inquire about the payment for reassembling my car only to be told that they must still discuss it with Discovery Insure.I then called Discovery Insure only to be left on hold for 18 minutes and no assistance.Today-04/04/25,I received a message from the Diff.Specialists that I must pay for reassembling the car because "they received word from the insurance that they will not take liability for the reassemblance of my vehicle ".I'm completely shocked that after 8 weeks of not having a car,R2000 of Uber benefit,1 week of car hire(after I insisted that I didn't have my car back due to a wrong initial diagnosis),that I now have to pay for the reassembling the car and find and way to fix it myself.
I'm really sorry to hear about the frustration you're facing with your car claim and the overall experience. It sounds like you've been through a long and stressful process, especially with the confusion surrounding the repairs, the assessment, and now the reassembly fee. It’s understandable to be upset, given how long it’s been and the unexpected costs you're now facing.
We have made the relevant management team aware of your distress regarding the claim.
