The worst insurance company ever
My bitter journey with Discovery Insurance - feel free to share
I was insured with insurance A whose premiums were almost R4000 for comprehensive insurance including my Opel Coupè until a friend told me about Discovery Insure which was way affordable so i jumped in. In Sep 2016; i was insured by Discovery Insure fot a premium amount of R1600 - what a bargain, i thought......
Fast foward to Jan 2017: my car was involved in an accident that led to the roof on my car being damaged as well as the dents on the drivers side and my nightmare began.....
First my claim was approved after Dentrite, in King Williams Town assessed the damages.... i was told i need to give them a two days notice dor them to arrange the carhire, and my problems began..... Their Ms Xaba who was my claim administrator never took my calls nore return my emails... i then called the call centre and nothing was done..... the roof aspect of my claim was disapproved as the Discovery insurance told me i never specified that my car was a convertible until i demanded te recording from the conversation that led to my signing up with them... to date, nothing is forthcoming.... then the story changed to say the assessor declined to process as they said the fact that the roof is not opening has nothing to do with the accident. Lemme make it clear that the assessor never called to see my car : he or she looked at the William Hunt dealership that said a lot of thing and also included the loose wiring at the boot and the assessor re**** on that to disprove the claim ( for the open top)
I then lodged a complaint with Ombudsman for Short Term insurance (OSTI) on or about May and they took almost 3 months to revert to me, by this time: the roof of my car is rattling esp when ya drive beyond 100km/h. I am yet to get the ruling. While waiting for that, Discovery Insure called me and told me to go get the car from Avis and book my car in....
Now here is the glitch: my car was damaged on the roof this led to two things gone wrong: open top not opening and lining on the inside of the roof of loose and Discovery Insure authorised only the dents on the roof and not the interior lining of the roof. They claim that the door was not included by the assesor, which in this case is Dentrite of King Williams Town and Dentrite is saying the insurance should have known as William Hunt dealership stated in their report that the car has dents....
I have since asked for the second recording, since Nov 4th, i must state for the converstation where i made a claim as the call centre agent paraphrased what i reported on the day as i recal tge conversation was more that 5 min yet what is written is one line which is not a true reflection of what happened.
Should i then conclude that as a consumer you are as good as dead the minute you make a claim for damages on your car? Why did Discovery insure not comply with my request for audio recording of both conversations? Mind you, both requests were made to theur Legal Department, Ms Govender who took my email adress and undertook to send such back to me? Was i failed by Dentrite panel beaters during the assessment stage as per the clain from Discovery Insure? Are all insurances pushing paper as against physically inspecting the damages on the car?
