The insurance company that NEVER covers!

I am a longstanding customer of Discovery and have held the following policies with this insurance firm for a number of years (claim free, except for health care in emergency instances): Discovery Life insurance for myself and my husband, Discovery Health insurance for myself and my husband, Discovery Vehicle insurance, Discovery Retirement Annuity, and Discovery Household insurance. These premiums cost us approx. R8434.00 per month- far higher than some competitors. A few weeks back I required assistance regarding a claim for repairs to the minimal damage of my vehicle owing to an obstacle in the road. Despite never having requested a claim prior to this, Discovery found a 'loop-hole' in my policy and thus they refused to pay. Today I phoned Discovery Insure to ask whether they would assist me with a claim for damage to my husband's mobile phone, which took place inside of the home and is thus covered by our household insurance (I know this, because when I opened this policy, I was required to provide endless details along with serial numbers of all movable assets, etc., which I did). The consultant I spoke to today said I could not claim as the agent who opened my policy initially chose NOT to add our movable property despite my explicit request for her to do so, as our mobile phones and laptops are critical for our income. The consultant simply said, sorry, there was nothing she could do despite the fact that critical detail was captured incorrectly and this is not the first claim declined in a few months. I responded by saying that owing to my good track record and non-claims as well as the large sum spent with company each month (under the premise that we are covered) that a manager should phone to explain this gross oversight and compensate before I retract and cancel ALL policies with Discovery. I was told that either Roland or Nozipho (managers) would contact me by COB today. This call was placed at around 08h30 this morning and still nothing. This lack of service is not only poor service delivery, but moreover, proves the ********* ethos, which Discovery adopts in the running of their organisation. This is rather disappointing from a supposedly 'reputable' insurance firm. Perhaps spend less time on sending me Vitality correspondence and more time on providing your customers with the service they pay for.

Thank you for the time afforded.

As discussed household content cover does not include cover for portable possessions, the cover would be seperate and would thus generate a premium of its own seperate from the contents.

I apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment that you experienced in dealing with us regarding this matter.

Regards,

Sakhe
