Terrible Experience with Discovery Insure from someone who switched after being with Discovery Health

Increadibly Bad experience with Discovery Insure in my first ever car insurance claim.

After months of trying to sort out a car claim with Discovery Insure (Feb 2023 - July 2023). I have now decided to put the details of my experience in the public record. I have had good experiences with Discovery Health and Discovery Bank previosuly, but Discovery Insure has really wasted my time and treated me very unprofessionally to the point that I really doubt the commitment of the brand to its customers and taking care of them. I feel like just another debit order at this point. My hope is that by detailing my experience below with credible evidence somebody in quality control at Discovery can follow up and ensure this never happens to any customer ever again!

I would also advise any potential customer to think carefully before switching to Discovery Insure if you are feeling tempted because of rewards etc. The frustration I have experienced is just not worth it.

19th Feb 2023 - my parked car is hit by cyclist and left with damage to drivers door 21 Feb 2023 - Claim submitted via App and Booked for Assessment 23 Feb 2023 - Forced to drive 35km to the nearest assessment center in CT (incur the costs of transport and lose half a work day in the process) 24 Feb 2023 - Claim authorised / 28 Feb notified need to order parts for job 6 April 2023 - notified parts are still not available 25 April 2023 - notified parts are still not available 25 May 2023 personal plea from me for help in some form - no meaningful feedback just referral to email address of panel beater but no info given 2nd June 2023 - request for info about the repair - no meaningful feedback 9th June 2023 - another request for clear feedback none given 12th June 2023 - managed to deal directly with panelbeater - reserved date of July 3rd 2023 as in school holidays and so minimises inconvenience for me . They confirm they have relevant part. 14 June 2023 - notified parts are still not available 18 June 2023 - notified parts are still not available 25 June 2023 - notified parts are still not available 1 July 2023 - notified parts are still not available 3 July 2023 - car is booked in - request is made that it is dealt with before end of school holdiays (10 working days)

July 20th finally received fixed car back after paying R5000 excess for a job billed as R7333. Had to lose half a day of work and another 35km trip through to Cape Town

Had to continually follow up through the process and only received the car back three weeks later. Informed that the part that I waited 5 months for, was a sticker on the door. I also found out that the door should have been replaced fully but discovery would not authorise it. Panel beater attempted to authorize this and was informed a full door would take too long to get hold of in the time period and so ended up doing taking three weeks with the car because of this back and forth communication with Discovery and extra work required. Emailed Discovery Insure on July 23 and Aug 14th about my experience to see if anybody had even noticed - still no reply at this point

Further info to provide evidence of my experience

I would like to point out it it took more than 6 months to repair a very basic door problem due to incredibly poor communication and oeprations. I then emailed twice before I went to social media and was ignored both times. This is the first time anyone has taken even an ounce of interest for in me and my situation. I am glad the detailed report I provided allows you to improve . However I feel like Discovery should make some sort of gesture to compensate me for all my waisted time and frustration. Otherwise the brand will be forever tarnished in my mind. It feels like this reply is a damage minimisation strategy as opposed to truly trying to rectify a horrible experience and taking true responsibility for the failure and trying to generate trust in my relationship with the brand again. I also feel like after writing up this experience it is my responsibility to share it widely with other consumer review spaces as you are not taking responsibility for your mistakes.

Here is Discoveries reply - no attempt to actually take responsibility just damage limitation and PR speak

Good day Peter S
Thank you for sharing your views.
We appreciate that we have failed you on the claim but can assure you that your review will enable us to do better going forward.
Whilst we endeavor, we finalize all claims as quickly as possible, we note that delays may at times occur, especially where parts are concerned.
It is of the assessor's opinion that the door would be deemed repairable thereby shortening the delay on parts.
Regards
Discovery Insure
