Sneaky underhanded insurer

Be aware that you HAVE to select power surge protection as an option for home/business insurance. I was only made aware at the end of 2020 when a PC got damaged by a power surge. Despite having comprehensive cover Discovery had changed their policy in April 2020, as we entered lockdown, and apparently sent out a news letter to clients regarding this. Blissfully unaware I updated my policy with them in September 2020 and the agent did not inform me of this change, so unwittingly I was without Surge cover which is now an added option. The claim is only paying out a limited amount! I believe that they have been underhanded in making this change without informing clients sufficiently and by agents who do not tell the client of the option. Loadshedding and the unstable power grid means that the chance of damage by power surges are much higher now and the option should be mandatory as it was before.

My point is, why would you make the power surge an option? I see no reason for it to be an option. Who would not want power surge protection?
It seems like a shifty decision on your part. You may have sent a newsletter and have info somewhere on your site but why would I look for it if I believed that comprehensive insurance means that I am covered?
The question still remains why power surge was made an option. Who would benefit by not selecting the option? Please clarify for me.
