Shocking Service and Integrity!

Recently I decided to move over to Discovery Insure, only to be met with the most appauling service in my almost 10 years of having insurance, this is how everything transpired.

I was called up by a Sales Broker Consultant from Discovery Insure (I did not approach Discovery). After the whole sales pitch and numerous questions in order to give me a monthly fee on both Household and Car Insurance, Discovery came to a number with some decent benefits for the price at the time, which my previous insurer was not able to match in both price and benefits.

Before officially going ahead with the policy, I had numerous questions and a big concern around the VitalityDrive option which allows you to "enjoy" a cash back benefit up to a certain percentage of your fuel spend, as I understood it, based on your driving habits. However in order for Discovery Insure to calculate this cash back, a "tracking" device (used loosely here) would need to be installed/activated and link to the Discovery Insure App on your phone. This device was my big concern - it tracks Speed, Location, Braking, Cornering and Acceleration as well as time - my concern now comes in; if for some reason I met in an accident (my fault or not) and I just so happened to be over the speed limit, would it affect my claim (i.e. be grounds for rejection of the claim? I was told NO, only Time and Location for verification purposes). Lets be honest though, even if this is the case that it will not be considered at claim time, the above information can easily be used to determine your risk levels and thereby assist in adjusting your premium or bringing about excesses etc. which can be used to penalise you in those ways and not reject your claim (something one must consider) and quesitions ethics. In anycase, having this confirmation of NO claim rejection I proceed to activate my policy which was for 1 June 2017.

On 1 June 2017, is when I came to realise how poor Discovery Insure is. I suddenly received an updated Schedule (conveniently after the inception of my policy), stating my monthly premium is now an extra R300 odd more than the initial agreed and confirmed amount in a previous version of the schedule. I send an email to follow up on why this is the case. I received a shocking response, which I interpreted in saying I **** about having uninterrupted insurance since 2008 when it was only for 5 Months according to my previous insurer...so here is what got me, as a consultant you ask the following scripted question "Have you had uninterrupted insurance and since when?", I respond saying "Since 2008"...then the consultant moves onto a different question...my argument is knowing that I had insurance for that long, the logically question immediately would be to ask "Is this with the same insurer or multiple?" right? consultants do deal with alot of people and I can't be the only one who had multiple insurers? The consultant didn't ask me this question, nor did I get a call back closer to the time of inception to clarify this, instead Discovery Insure merrily increases my premium without issue and assumes all will be hunky dory.

After more than a week of back and forth with another consultant, not even the consultant who was just full of talk and of a very poor calibre, eventually the premium was reduced to still very slighly more that the original schedule. To this day, after the 3rd updated schedule back to the lower amount, I have had NO follow up from the consultant who made the mess to see how things were.

Right now I am looking for another insurer who actually has integrity and is professional and thorough in their homework with the clients as I cannot trust Discovery Insure. My advise to anyone looking for insurance, please use quality insurance providers (NOT Discovery Insure) who have professional staff and does not fool you into signing up based on benefits that seem nice at a price you're happy with and then increase the premiums without reason (later finding out that they didn't do their homework properly and then indirectly say you **** thats why it increased) and then you must suffer to get it fixed and then not care there afterwards.

Let me be clear as well, I am not writing this because I want a cheaper premium...i would have happily stayed with my previous insurer because my premium with Discovery Insure did actually increase on the second schedule to a similar amount to my previous insurer and it would not have made sense to move to Discovery as the extra benefits would be something i wouldn't miss because I never had it. I moved over to them because the cost to benefit ratio was indeed better after the sales pitch was given.

Long story short, if you are considering Discovery Insure I personally would advise against it to save to you the stress and inconveniences (it's up to the individual ultimately). If you already have Discovery Insure, it may be some food-for-thought to aid in your decision to move away from Discovery Insure if you were contemplating it. For those who were lucky to not see the poor quality and integrity, goodluck to you and hopefully you won't have to go through what I have but be very vigilant! Discovery won't see to do anything about this based on this review but hopefully i've saved alot of people from the hardships that will be imminent when signing up with them.

Regards to All!
