Shameless profiteering at customers expense.

This seems to be a common occurrence with Discovery, add a massive increase to my premium and then have me fight about getting it reduced and having a backwards forwards dance with Discovery. Tacking on a 10% increase on my premium is incredibly prejudicial against me. It is way above the inflation rate, +- 6%. Not only that, the value of my car has depreciated 30% since purchase. My car has become common place in the South African Motor Industry and parts are no longer as expensive and difficult to come by as they were. This has been confirmed by Honda. Besides these factors there has been no change to my circumstances that warrant such an increase, nor have I made any claims on my policy that would deem me as a high-risk individual and also warrant a high increase. The only conclusion I can come to is that the large increase on my policy is purely motivated by a want to fleece the customer as much as possible, which I am starting to find is a common place tactic by Discovery as a whole. Therefore, to simplify the whole issue and avoiding this constant backwards and forwards and time wasting by discovery, I will be looking at other insurance companies that operate on a more customer centric basis and will be offering me value for money. As soon as I have found a better offer I will put in my notice with Discovery. I have actually just been discussing my insurance with a colleague, and she has informed me that I am paying too high a premium on my car, she drives a 2015 new model Hyundai I20. Car value is more than twice as mine. We fit in the same age category and she is paying R520.00 per month with only a R1500 excess. So now I know where to go for a quote. The last point I wish to make is that I requested a report back on the reasons for rejection if my request for reduction was rejected. I did not get any reasons besides a rejection. This is not customer service, that is just plain rudeness by your risk department. And rudeness is not something I tolerate at all. In today’s world, politeness is the mark of a genuine person. To summarize, I find the behavior of the risk department deplorable and unbecoming of a company like Discovery and I will be changing my insurance broker should discovery not feel that they wish to retain me as a long-standing customer, a customer that has a diverse portfolio of discovery products.

Since i sent this letter to discovery they came back with a cut and paste reason why you may have a higher premium, I rep**** back that i want the specific reasons for such an increase and again they came back with maybe you fall into one of those categories.

I then asked for someone from Discovery to call me so when can actually talk about this issue. Again Discovery has shown its mettle about not really caring about the customer only about the bottom line and no one has bothered to call me, So i am having a 8.9% increase on my medical aid and a 10% increase on my insurance.

discovery, the clock is ticking, i have already started asking for other quotes for all of my portfolio....lets see who wants my business if Discovery doesn't.

Good morning, I take note of your response and find that discovery Insure is not interested in retaining me as a client. I have found another quote with better cover, same excess and lower premiums. This from a large reputable insurance company and not a fly by night business. When i told them who i was with and how much i was being charged they were more then happy to give me a better premium rate. I also take note of the fact that Discovery had to hide its negative answers from the general public, possibly to try and mitigate the negative sentiment that this whole fleecing is generating for Discovery Insure. It has become about the Big company trying to ***** over the little guy, and everyone loves an underdog story. You are claiming that the very high premium is appropriate for the risk i present. Yet no one has been willing to tell me what risk i present. everything that is associated with me or my car presents a very low risk. My claims history, my type of car, availability or spares, where my car sits day and night, what my car is used for, zero modifications to the car, annual servicing...need i continue? If someone from Discovery Insure is willing to phone me, discuss the issue and offer a viable way forward that would be great, to be honest i don't really feel like changing my insurance company, but i refuse to be taken for a ride by anyone. I would much prefer to stay with Discovery but if they feel they need to push me away so be it. I would like to please have a call back from either the retention department manager or the head of cancellations. It is up to you what you want to do. I would also like for discovery to make their previous and any following correspondence open to the public. they have every right to know and read what Discovery has to say. It may actually help them shape a more accurate picture about how Discovery operates. Kind regards, Anton Newman
