Premiums

The saving on monthly premiums does not way the penalties you will get when claiming. Discovery Insure penalizes you for living in KZN with added cost due to weather. Then they penalize you and increase your premium because you have made 2 claims. Claims which were caused by power surges from municipality and someone driving through a red robot. They DON’T care about their clients It’s all about the Money. Claims were hi so they increased. Absolutely disgusting service and attitude to clients.

Good day Michael

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. We understand that you're not happy with the increased premiums due to being a multiclaimant. Also that you believe we're penalising you for where you live.

Insurance is a risk and peril based product, meaning, we provide cover for your assets based on the risk you pose, for an appropriate premium. When looking at risk, many factors are taken into account and this does include location. This is because, based on historical data, certain areas have been found to be a higher risk to be in due to incidences of regular inclement weather, crime or natural disasters. The rate of claims in these areas is higher than average than in other areas and so, to mitigate the risk, higher premiums are charged when people live in these areas.

This applies to the number of claims submitted by clients as well. Those claiming more pose a higher risk and so premiums are adjusted to help mitigate the risk, which is what happened in this instance. We realise this is not the outcome you would have liked but hope we've been able to assist in explaining how this came about.

Regards
