Personally, I wouldn't recommend Discovery Insure - A short story
You know that I told Discovery to take my car to a service provider of my choosing.
They said it was fine and approved my claim - on condition... "The ******* starts here"... that if they need more parts or whatever ('additionals'), they won't be liable for them. On what basis? I pay a premium, no? But, because they're trying to get out of honouring their end of the contract ASAP - they make me this offer – I called them capitalists in one email to them. I rejected it and we agreed that we move my car to a service provider of their choosing.
Then they choose these other one's - now I've got two companies that just don't care (Discovery Insure and their service provider), handling my car. And to think that, I did not even need them to care, just provide the service you promised.
Let's go...
1. This whole thing starts when I get an SMS saying that my "your claim has been booked for repairs on 16 June 2022"? A public holiday?? Really?! This is also a month away from the date of the SMS - are they going to start working on my car in a month's time AND on a public holiday;
2. I asked for an update from Discovery about my car as things were progressing at a snail’s pace, what do they do? Forward my email to their service provider to reply... did they... what do you think? What did Discovery do about it.. what do you think?
3. Whenever I would get a reply, I'd be told that the service provider is stripping for the car to check for 'additional' damage and will load the request. At this point, I am concerned, they're doing the same thing over and over again... Discovery is seemingly satisfied with this reply, not to mention, their service provider just refuses to give an ETA, this 'additionals' chat of theirs is their answer to everything;
4. When I saw that maybe they needed space, I let them be for 2 weeks. Not a single update that wasn't provoked - I mean what, do they think that I've donated my car to their service provider? Now I'm fighting for simple updates, imagine - I pay a premium, surely?!
5. Mind due, at this point - June 16 has passed. They need more 'additionals', it's like they planned this - they're making me a conspiracy theorist now...
6. And still Discovery is relaxed about everything, not once did I see an escalation with the service provider, just a generic email to the services provider's authorizations email address - they can't even fault me for my conclusion that they had no regard for my claim or the service being provided to me;
7. Last week (28 June 2022) I got a call from the service provider with an update - this is the 2nd time since 16 May 2022 (when they got my car to repair) that they actually call me first and still tell me that I should reasonably expect my car on 8 July 2022 - what on earth?? They're literally falling 7 days short of 2 months from when they got my car - and I can only hope that it has been repaired properly since it took this darn long;
8. Discovery have been unbothered about this state of affairs - have they bothered to offer me car hire for this inconvenience while their service provider takes forever with my car... you already know that they didn't!!
9. I have to state that I wanted my vehicle to be repaired by BMW ARC Gezina (they're literally an approved repair centre), but no, not Discovery - and now they don't call their service provider to order to get me the best service. Discovery is guilty of *****ing my premium at this rate, where is the service that I should be receiving?
10. Bear in mind that my claim arose on the 17th of April 2022 – at the date and time of this post, my claim has been open for 52 working days (83 calendar days) – these are the turnaround times one should expect with Discovery Insure.
I cannot recommend Discovery Insure as an insurer.
“Get more than just car insurance with Discovery Insure – get market-leading innovation, service and …” – over-promised and severely underdelivered.
They now want to discuss car hire when I am due to receive my car back on the 8th of July 2022 – are they serious. I am appalled that they think that, one, this is a matter for discussion still and secondly, why are they not proactive in seeking to remedy the situation, they should actually be asking for my Uber travel receipts for the inconvenience I have had to bear because of their lackadaisical attitude. I am out of pocket and they don’t care, but let me fail to pay one premium, they will act like the entire company’s operations will seize immediately – capitalists.
Had they offered me car hire when they were supposed to, it might have saved them this review - but this is capitalism for you.
If you sign up/continue with Discovery, this is what awaits you at claim stage.
