not impressed
a simple cellphone claim was submitted Wednesday 09/03/2016. after calling twice a day everyday for feedback we were told being validated. that Friday called again, a new consultant told us nothing had been done and confirmed itc and requested quotes. phone insured for R11k. S5 is discontinued and only few left. I requested to be paid cash as I could get a newer phone and upgrade myself. the cash payout was R6685. even through my cover was able to replace me with replacement s6 and I pay excess I was happy to pay. discovery then say I must take a voucher from takealot. I didn't mind until went online and saw not many phones and wasn't too keen on doing online shopping for electronics. plenty emails to consultant, hardly ever feedback, kept saying we do not mind being paid out the lesser amount after excess, this is not the problem. discovery are only wanting to pay their suppliers. also bear in mind a previous claim for a phone was also messed up when I paid the excess amount to their supplier and this is why I do not want to use their supplier. I am not asking to be paid out more although I am entitled to more. I also want to be happy with the phone I have. I will be cancelling!
Thank you for bringing your concerns with regards to the proposed settlement of your claim to our attention.
We have discussed the matter with our claims division, where they advised that the delays in settlement was due to your request first for cash and later for an upgrade. The claim is being authorised with the model of a phone you had placed on cover with our service provider as it can be replaced. Cash is only an option when we are unable to replace and upgrades on unavailability of the model on cover.
We are very sorry that you are dissatisfied with the basic principles of insurance which make provision for us to put you back in the same position you were prior to the loss.
