Not a good company to get insured with

I have been paying for my car insurance (comprehensive) to Discovery from more than a year now. I got scratches on my car (not a major though) recently. I called the Discovery customer care (not a toll free number, lost all my air time) and got connected to Claims. One lady attended the call and said that I have excess of R4000 (don't know what it is) so, if my car repair quote gets <=R4000, I need to pay for it, any thing that goes beyond R4000 (only the difference amount) could be claimed from Discovery. And suggested, alternatively if I reduce excess to R500, then anything that go beyond R500 could be claimed but my monthly premium would go up. I thought for few seconds and said 'Yes' and asked her to transfer the call to Service/Change department. She put my call on hold for few minutes later the call got disconnected. I called the Discovery customer care again, now another lady (Claims) attended the call, I narrated again. Then she started asking additional questions like what side of the car got scratches, where did this incident happened, etc.,... I stopped her and asked why is she asking these questions and asked to just transfer the call to change/service dept. After I landed on Service dept, I got my policy updated, then I went back to the same lady for logging the claim, she said it will be applicable only for future claims. I asked it's a future claim only, as we haven't logged the claim yet, but she rejected and said even though the claim hasn't got logged, the previous call got recorded and I can't claim under updated policy. Not sure, why the first lady from claim's dept said like that, and why the second lady (claim's) is too smart and want to be so loyal to her company and smartly made to just increase my monthly premium.. In the end, customer like me who was not told about the concept of 'excess' when I took the policy for the first time last year, got cheated. I ended up paying more than R1200 for more than a year as insurance premium and got nothing in return. No benefits. Being in pandemic situation, and tough times in the corporate world due to lock down and no business for the company, no bones, no hikes...... companies like Discovery are not supporting/helping the customers and above all cheating smartly. Absolutely horrible.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, but why I was not informed these things when I took the Car insurance. Don't you think 'hiding information' results in cheating the customer. I still deserve an answer. FYI, no one called me till now to provide the details as you specified in your reply
