Never ending premium increases
Just sharing folks : Go and pull your record (on their website) of what Discovery has billed you on insurance over the last 2 years. My policy has gone up 51% since I started with them exactly 2 years ago. 6 increases in 2 years! There is always an excuse. Covid, loadshedding, etc etc. They do it slowly and steadily. I called them to discuss and all they could recommend is taking cuts on my original cover.

Thank you for sharing your concerns.
Your premium has not been increased by 51% however the were additions to your portfolio wich led to a noticable increase in total premium.
- 06/11/2020 contents cover added at R571.00
- Vehicle cover went up by R130 at 1st anniversary
Following your recent interaction with our admin team , it came to light that you were displeased with the said. In determining a premium many factors come to play which ultimately yields to one aspect; your risk profile. Risk is a combination of hazards measured by probability. A condition in which a loss or losses are likely to happen or unlikely. Looking at your claims record we noted an average of 3 claims per year between since inception with a significant Loss ratio at 70% with an ICS score on 3. To keep premiums fair between all our clients, we only increased the premiums of clients who have had several claims over the last three years. Since the insurance premiums of all are used to pay the claims of those who have suffered a loss, this once-off premium increase ensures that all Discovery Insure clients have access to a fair claims process and receive the correct claim payouts, even in abnormal circumstances. The insurance is constantly calculating “data” and has to ensure that this 'rand swooping exercise' where losses may be inevitable or not ,allows for the business to cover the insured as expected. We therefore affirm that the increase is in line with the given current economic environment (vehicle and part shortages and abnormal power surge and weather events) as we are experiencing unprecedented increases in claims costs.
Your profile is not projecting a discount at this stage.
We encourage you to consider adding our vitality drive benefit and take advantage of the cash back rewards.

16 Nov 2022, 17:25Hi there,
I've had 2 claims. 1 small vehicle accident which was not my vault and Discovery was in the process of reclaiming the funds from the other party.
The second claim was a geyser which we all know will not happen for another 10 years. What other claim are you referring to?
There was been no additional items. October 2020 my insurance was R 1380.55 pending me moving into my property in November. From November 2020 my policy went from R1602.68 to R 2405.14 (with another R60 due in January).
Much like you would work out a salary increase of 7% year on year please apply the same logic here. Its a 50% increase on the premium of November 2020. (With the R 60 we get over 50%).
This being imposed on someone living in a loadshedding free zone.
Please advise how the ICS score is and how it is calculated?
Insurance is suppose to be there to provide risk cover, not to beat your customers with a stick when they have a claim.
Regards,
Jelique.
