Loyalty to Exploitation:Discovery Insure Exploitive Practices

I have been a Discovery Insure client for 18 months, paying R2,190 per month with a R3,000 excess on my car policy. Throughout this time, I have faced endless issues with their customer service and Discovery points system. You spend hours on the phone, passed from one scripted agent to another, with no resolution or creativity. This is abuse of customers’ time and shows contempt for us.

Shockingly, when I queried my policy this month, the premium was reduced to R1,564.79 (still with a R3,000 excess). That’s a R600 difference per month over 18 months – money I was overcharged without explanation. Despite repeated promises of call‑backs, I never receive them. Days pass with no feedback, no accountability, and no care.

Agents often talk over you instead of listening, and Discovery refuses to provide the “quality control” call recordings they claim to have. On 3 June, I spent a long time with an agent who sent me eight different versions of my policy and promised to call back to explain. I am still waiting.

This is a nightmare experience, bordering on shady. Discovery Insure must treat customers with respect, be transparent about pricing, and live up to the corporate values they claim to uphold. I demand this issue be addressed and resolved without further delay.

Dear Discovery Insure,Thank you for your response. However, I must reiterate that I am still awaiting the recordings of the sales call which you are supposed to keep and promised to send to me. These recordings are critical to clarifying the discrepancies in my policy.I was never offered a scratch and dent policy, and now I am forced to pay a R3,000 excess to repair a scratch on my car. In my discussion with Nethotlo Nosenye from Customer Services, it was admitted that I may have been overcharged. She promised me feedback by Friday, 12 June, and I agreed it would make better business sense to provide feedback by Monday, 15 June. To date, I have not received a courtesy call, despite claims that you have been trying to make contact.Ultimately, I was overcharged R600 per month for 15 months, and I expect restitution for this overcharging. This situation is pure exploitation, and I require a clear resolution.
