Love the service & incident detection — Vitality Drive scoring is unfair for SUVs/diesels

I’m a Discovery Insure client and overall I’m happy with the company. Your staff are consistently friendly and helpful, and the incident detection feature is brilliant — it worked perfectly when I hit a pothole that destroyed my wheel. So this isn’t a blanket hate post.

But Vitality Drive scoring is seriously unfair for diesel SUVs/bakkies.

I drive a diesel SUV with the sensor mounted correctly behind the mirror (and it’s even been replaced), yet for nearly two years I’ve been stuck on Blue because the system keeps flagging harsh acceleration and harsh cornering during normal, gentle driving. Braking scores correctly — acceleration and cornering don’t. It feels like the algorithm is tuned for small petrol cars and doesn’t account for diesel torque or SUV dynamics.

Other drivers I know see the same pattern: small cars score high, SUVs score low with the same driver. That points to a calibration issue, not reckless driving.

I’m asking Discovery to either recalibrate thresholds for SUVs/diesels or allow a standalone/alternative tracking option that scores these vehicles fairly.

Great company in many ways — but this part needs fixing.
