Let Down by Discovery on the only occasion I needed their help...
My car was insured with Discovery Insure for more than 6 years. In all that time I was, thankfully, claim free. My premiums however kept going up - the excuse from Discovery was that as my car was getting older, the cost of spare parts was increasing. As a result, my premium was almost R1100 per month. About 3 weeks ago, I had a problem where my car wouldnt start and I needed roadside assistance. I happened to be in Parys, about 150km from home. I called Discovery and was informed that they would only provide towing assistance for 40km. This would have left me in the middle of nowhere. When I pointed out that this my first and only claim under my insurance, I was told that this was "company policy" and there was nothing that the agent could do. I then managed to arrange a tow with the AA who were amazing and transported me and my car back home without any issues - The AA even called the next day to find out if I had been sorted out and if I needed any more assistance. The Discovery agent, in sharp contrast, didnt even care enough to call to find out whether I'd managed to arrange a tow truck. They were quite happy to leave me stranded on the roadside whilst hiding behind company policy. At the stage when I called Discovery to cancel my policy, to add insult to injury, I was transferred to several people who told me what a valued client I was and how much Discovery wanted to retain my business. For me, Discovery was not there for me on the single occasion I needed them to be. Needless to say, I have moved my insurance elsewhere,
